Built for HVAC estimators

Your plan set, read and quantified before you open it.

Upload the drawing package. Boom returns the mechanical sheets sorted, the equipment schedules extracted, and the units counted off the floor plans. In about a minute.

Every HVAC bid starts the same way: hundreds or thousands of pages across every discipline, and someone has to find the mechanical sheets, check the revisions, and pull the schedules before a single quantity gets measured. Boom does that first pass, and shows you where every number came from.

Five days of sorting before the first quantity.

A mechanical estimator at a national contractor described a $16M job that took five days of takeoff between two people, and that was after someone had already pulled the mechanical and plumbing sheets by hand. The largest set we have processed ran 1,273 pages.

That work is real and it takes experience. It also does not need an estimator. Finding the mechanical sheets, matching revisions, reading the schedules into a list: none of it is judgment, and all of it happens before the part that is.

Built Around the Way Estimators Already Work

Boom doesn't ask your team to change anything. No symbol libraries, no templates, no naming conventions, no page ranges. Upload the set as it was delivered.

1

Upload the drawing set

A complete PDF package, however it arrived. Multiple disciplines, inconsistent naming, hundreds of pages, mixed revisions.

2

Get the mechanical sheets back

Every page classified by trade and organized, with a confidence score on each one. Anything uncertain gets flagged for review rather than assumed.

3

Read the schedules

Equipment schedules are read off the sheets and exported as a clean list: tag, category, manufacturer, model, and the schedule each row came from. Electrical panel schedules are filtered out, not mixed in.

4

Count what's drawn

Units counted off the floor plans, not just off the schedules, so you see what is actually on the job and where the plans and the schedules disagree.

5

Start Estimating

Trade-separated sets and CSV exports straight into the workflow you already use.

What Changes When Finding Your Pages Takes 60 Seconds Instead of Days?

The estimate doesn't change. The way your team gets there does.

When document preparation becomes faster, the benefits extend far beyond saving time. Estimators spend more of their day applying their expertise instead of hunting through plan sets, while project managers and preconstruction teams gain confidence that everyone is working from the same information.

  • Spend more time estimating and less time sorting plan sets.
  • Reduce the manual work required before every bid.
  • Help new estimators become productive more quickly.
  • Organize large plan set packages with greater consistency.
  • Improve confidence before takeoff begins.

Graded against estimators, not against ourselves

Most software in this category reports its own accuracy. We hold ours against completed takeoffs from professional estimators working the same drawings, line by line and size by size.

Every number Boom returns traces back to a tag on a sheet. If it isn't confident, it says so and sends it for review instead of guessing.

Built for the reality of mechanical work

HVAC drawing packages are not clean. They are assembled from multiple consultants, disciplines, revisions and formats, and no two firms draw the same way. Boom reads the drawings the way an estimator does, from title blocks, sheet indexes, schedules and callouts, so it works on a set it has never seen from a firm it has never seen.

Residential, retail, office, healthcare, schools, warehouse, mixed-use. The package changes. The problem doesn't.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Does Boom replace HVAC estimators?

No. Boom does the document work that happens before judgment starts. Your estimator reviews the classifications and owns the estimate.

  • Can it handle large projects?

Yes. The largest set we have processed ran 1,273 pages across every discipline.

  • What happens when Boom isn't confident?

It says so. Every page carries a confidence score, and anything uncertain is flagged for review rather than quietly assumed.

  • Does it work on scanned drawings?

Vector PDFs give the best results. Scanned sets are handled, and where a page can't be read cleanly, Boom tells you rather than returning a number it can't stand behind.

  • What kinds of buildings does it work on?

Residential, retail, office, institutional, warehouse and mixed-use, from different engineering firms. Boom reads the drawings rather than matching symbols, so a building type it has not seen is not a special case.

  • What file formats do you support?

PDF drawing packages, however they were delivered.
